Unique Student Identifier (USI)

It is a compulsory legal requirement for all VET students who undertake nationally recognised training with a Registered Training Organisation (RTO) to have a Unique Student Identifier (USI).

The USI is a randomly-generated alpha-numeric code allocated at no cost to an individual student who enters the Vocational Education and Training (VET) system. Once allocated the USI will stay with the student for life and be used to record any nationally recognised VET training undertaken by the student.

The process for creating a student USI takes about 5 minutes, and can be done online by visiting https://www.usi.gov.au/
